Stagnation in healthcare has real consequences

Our story began after witnessing a patient die following a heart transplant due to reasons related to poor donor organ condition. Her loss was devastating — and she is not alone. While surgical and transplant medicine have advanced dramatically over the past three decades, organ and tissue preservation systems have remained largely unchanged. Ice-based storage, developed more than half a century ago, is still the global standard of care — a reality that may surprise many outside the medical profession.
