The Future Health Research and Innovation (FHRI) Fund’s Innovation Seed Fund supports Western Australian innovators in developing and commercialising health and medical solutions, driving research, creating high-value jobs, and strengthening the State’s biomedical capabilities.
Materia Health is thrilled to have been awarded $500,000 through the 2024-25 round of this program. This funding will accelerate the development of MateriaPOD from prototype to clinical readiness, including the integration of active temperature control to protect donor material from hypothermia, pressure, and rewarming-related injury during storage and transport. These sources of tissue injury are major contributors to primary graft dysfunction (PGD), the leading cause of early mortality following transplantation, affecting up to 30% of heart and lung recipients. By reducing the incidence of PGD, MateriaPOD aims to decrease early complications, shorten hospital stays, improve long-term transplant outcomes, and increase patient survival.
Thank you to the WA Department of Health Office of Medical Research and Innovation for supporting our mission to ensure every gift of donation is treated with the utmost care and respect.
